Financing summit for health held

The Provincial Government of Tarlac [PGT] in partnership with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Tarlac Chapter and the Asian Institute for Management–Center for Development Management conducted a Health Financing Summit at the Tarlac capitol’s Bulwagan ng mga Gubernador last May 23.

The Health Financing Summit, with this year’s theme “Universal Health Care: The Role of Health Financing in Achieving Universal Health Care”, is an annual health conference which aims to educate Filipinos on how the government moves to improve the health system and services throughout the country.

Health Undersecretary David Lozada read the message of President Benigno Aquino III with Dr. Leizel Lagrada, World Health Organization [WHO] Philippine representative Dr. Soe Nyunt-U, Dr. Alberto Romualdez, Arcenia Torres and Dr. Ramon Paterno discussing the programs’ overview, strengthening of health systems, and the universal health care program.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Ricardo Ramos shared information on the improved health care systems and services in the province and what had been done in attaining it.

The role and importance of information and communications technology [ICT] in achieving and sustaining universal health care was emphasized by Ms. Sylvia Stolk and Mr. Kenneth Hartigan-Go of the Asian Institute of Management detailed the fixed formula on how to implement health care systems in the country. Former San Isidro, Nueva Ecija Mayor Sonia Lorenzo likewise shared her experience on health financing.

Governor Victor Yap, who along with second district Representative Susan Yap, Vice Governor Pearl Angeli Erguiza-Pacada and other provincial officials, attending the health summit, said that health is for all and that the summit is very important in keeping a healthy citizenry.

“Health is an essential part in our four first program—Kalusugan muna is integrated in our program dubbed Sulong Tarlac,” he said.
Tarlac has a program called four first under its Sulong Tarlac battlecry. These are pagkain muna, kalusugan muna, edukasyon muna and trabaho muna.

“I hope that with this year’s health financing summit, a much improved implementation of the country’s health care systems and services will be realized,” the governor said
